FORM III MIDTERM EXAMINATION

ENGLISH LANGUAGE

TIME: 2:30 HOURS                                                                                   SEPTEMBER, 2018

 

INSTRUCTION;

                1. This paper consists with four ((04) sections A, B, C and D

2. Answer all questions in each section, But in section D, answer only one question.

    

                                       SECTION A. COMPREHENSION

1. Read the paragraph below and answer the questions that follow;

        Mrs Msemakweli lives at chang'ombe village. Every Sunday she goes to town to buy some of things for her home. Before living the house, she writes on a piece of paper everything she is going to buy. This is called the shopping lists.

        Yesterday was saturday and as usual, Mrs Msemakweli went to town. When she reached there, she saw her friend Asha and great her.

Mrs ; Msemakweli;, Hello Asha!

Asha; Oh hello. What are you doing in town?

Mrs; Msemakweli; Well,I have come to do some shopping.

Asha; I see. What are you going to buy today?

Mrs;  Msemakweli; Many things . I want to buy a gallon of cooking oil, some sugar, some rice, two bars of soap, some milk, a packet of salt, fruits, vegetables, dresses, and a pair of shoes.

Asha;  That's a very long shopping list. You must have a lot of money.

Mrs; Msemakweli; well. Not quite but I think it will take me a long time to look all these things.

Asha; That's true . But I can show you a place where you can buy all these things at once .

Mrs;  Msemakweli;  Do you realy mean it ?  Is there such a place?

Asha; Oh yes, come along and i'll show you. It is called suppermarket.

Mrs; Okey , let’s go.

In the suppermarket ,  Mrs Msemakweli   was surprised  to a lot  of things.  She started moving from one section to another.

Firstly they went to the vegetables and fruits section.  There were a lot of oranges , bananas, green beans, potatoes, and tomatoes.  They also saw a few pineapples and mangoes. But they din't see any pawpaws.

Then they went to another section where they saw many packets of  of tea, sweets, and biscuits  on the shelves.  There were also many bags of rice , sugar,and wheat flour.           

     Suddenly Mrs Msemakweli remembered she didin't have much flour left at home. So ,she added'' Wheat flour'' in her shopping list.

From here they went to the shoes and clothes section. They saw many beautiful dresses  and pair of  of shoes.  There were also T-shirts, trousers , hats and  umbrellas. Mrs Msemakweli took an empty basket and put the things she had taken from the shelves. When she was going to pay for things, she saw a shelf of perfumes. '' I wish I could buy some’’ she said .

But she had only little money left.  '' I will buy next time’’ She said while walking to the cashier .  She paid and walked out .Her friend Asha helped her to carry the basket to the bus stand.

 

                 Questions;
